Fire Fighting System (also called Fire Hydrant System) consists of a set of accessories (landing valves, hoses, branch pipes, hose reels, automated fire pump) that uses pressurized water to manually put off fire in Residential, Commercial and Industrial Projects.
Fire Hydrant system is the basic system mandated by the NBC (National Building codes of India) to be used for firefighting purpose and also for getting NOC (No objection Certificate) from the local fire authorities. Water based Fire Hydrant System is an effective and efficient means of extinguishing large fires, Hydrant system enables the fire fighter to attack the seat of the fire from a distance. Hydrant valves are outlets for delivering water with tremendous pressure so as to quench the fire. With discreet use of special branch pipe the water under pressure can also be used as a “sheet” to push the smoke for entering a building in flames. Depending on the type of building i.e., residential, commercial or industrial, a particular type of the hydrant systems i.e., Down comer system, Wet riser system or the Wet Riser cum Down comer system, is installed. These systems are designed as per Part IV of National building code for low rise and high rise buildings.
The pumping facility forms the heart of the fire Hydrant systems. A jockey pump is used to maintain enough pressure in the fire pipelines at all times. Normally an electrical motor driven pump and a standby Diesel engine driven pumps, are installed to ensure system functioning even during mains failure. The pump is basically used to lift the water from the reservoir and deliver the same under pressure to the hydrant points for fighting fires.
The Most important thing for a Fire Hydrant System is the designing part. Many times users try to install the fire fighting system on their own but are unable to install an efficient fire hydrant system due to lack of knowledge and also the urge to minimize their cost.  The hardware part consists of below fire fighting accessories installed as per the design laid out by the consultant/architect/vendor. In India, all fire fighting accessories should adhere to the respective BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) codes of ISI MARK. The standard items used in a Water Hydrant System are.
